Inclusive Virtual Poetry For College Programming | Jaylene Clark Owens

Here at Neon Entertainment we have worked all year long to help colleges through these confusing times. Our business is college entertainment. We have been in it for over 2 decades and work with individuals and organizations all over the country to help engage and inspire. Our network is deep, and many of our entertainers can be found in the brightest of lights in the industry. Virtual college programming was never something that may have been the first choice last year at this time, but now that we’ve all been immersed into the “Zoom” lifestyle with classes and communication going virtual, it’s become more and more popular!

One incredibly inspiring performer and poet we have for your college is Jaylene Clark Owens. Jaylene is a widely respected spoken word artist, and author of several poetry books. You can find Afro Poetic Here.

Hailing from Harlem, Jaylene is an AUDELCO and Barrymore award-winning actress in addition to her philanthropic poetic work. This year she was kind enough to offer up her usually live performances into an immersive and inclusive poetic experience.

My Voice My Choice

You can read about Jaylene’s program directly from her here! Knowing what to say or how to say it is hard enough. This year has made it even more difficult. Communicating feelings is so important to our success and well being. The virtual edition of My Voice My Choice helps students escape the day to day, and learn new experiences to help them succeed in life. So much of life goes beyond the classroom or the book, and lays within our hearts and minds. Spoken word poetry has always been a truly encapsulating art form, and it always brings students together. This virtual program allows your students to feel safe and secure in the comfort of their own place, and take in amazing useful information, and they are also going to create!

Leadership

In addition to some of her best poetry, Jaylene will talk with your group about the struggles of this year and overcoming those struggles as an independent artist. This can be a breath of fresh air for any creative students who may be stymied by the pandemic-thinking they can’t go into an artistic path. Jaylene is a testament to the human spirit, and her virtual program will truly engage students and inspire them from within.

Creativity

One of the best things you can do during challenging times is create. Ask any of our Neon Entertainers and they’ll say the same thing. Creators create. When you experience My Voice My Choice, your students won’t just sit there, they will get to engage and speak with Jaylene and even write poetry of their own! Using a line or 2 from each participant, the group will put together a customized poem that helps demonstrate the theme of the entire experience…

Virtual events may not be what we were thinking we would be doing this time last year, but it’s clear that they are here to stay. Virtual poetic programming may seem a bit confusing at first, but once you experience your first one, you’ll see exactly why hundreds of colleges all over the country turn to Neon Entertainment for virtual college events!
